Keep our Post Prom up and running!
Please show your support.
Like many of the school districts around us, Upper Dublin runs a fabulous Post-Prom Party. Ours is an all-night chaperoned event open to all seniors, whether or not they attend the prom. And it’s filled with fun, food, games and gifts – and no alcohol or drugs. The event is one of the best ways to keep our seniors safe on prom night, a time where young people often engage in risky behavior. And all of us, at some point, have soon-to-be graduates and appreciate knowing our children are in good hands after the prom.
Keep the party going
It’s the parent and corporate donations, along with untold volunteer hours, that keep this party going.
The volunteer hours are still solid. However, financial support, in these tough economic times, is down. While 85% of our students attend the post-prom party, only 50% of the senior families support it with the requested $35 donation.
Please help keep our children, today and in graduating classes to come, safe on prom night. Send your senior parent donation to: Nancy Gordon, 1256 Tressler Drive, Fort Washington, PA 19034. If $35 is too much, we understand; please donate an amount that works best for you.
And email 2010 co-chairs Erin Taylor, mktewt@aol.com or Jerry McCaffrey, jerry.thermal@comcast.net to volunteer. Chaperones, clean up, corporate sponsorship, decorations, food, invitations and raffle tickets are some of the areas that can use your help! You’ll have almost as much fun as the kids.
Other ways for anyone to help:• Buying post-prom raffle tickets on sale at school events and activities
• Making a tax-deductible donation if you’re a community business; email postpromsponsors@udhspto.org to get details
UD co-sponsors Greenfield Film Festival
Students can submit films to be judged
The Greenfield Foundation and the School District of Upper Dublin are partnering to present the second annual Greenfield Film Festival. A first-of-its-kind regional film competition, the program encourages the pursuit of the creative arts by bringing together faculty from Temple University and talented industry professionals to mentor budding high school filmmakers. A mix of city and suburban schools, both private and public, will make up this year's pool of participants. Any student from Upper Dublin wishing to participate may do so by submitting their film in accordance with the rules listed on the film festival website. Students will have months of access to a full range of state-of-the-art film/video equipment to produce films in one of three categories: fiction/narrative, documentary/personal essay, and experimental/other.
After the films have been completed, a prestigious panel of established media professionals, celebrities, and university professors, including winners of Oscars, Grammys, and Emmys, will judge the films. Scholarships and film-related prizes will be awarded at the glamorous, red carpet awards ceremony. The top films in each category will premiere on Friday, May 14th from 7:00 to 9:00 at the beautiful, historic Keswick Theater. The ceremony is free and open to the public, and early arrival is recommended. We look forward to seeing you there. For more information visit www.greenfieldyouthfilmfestival.com
